Clickable images are useful when a visual naturally represents the page, product, download, or action behind it. WordPress offers several ways to create them, but the best implementation remains clear, accessible, and easy to maintain.
Choose a Meaningful Destination
Link the image to a page that matches the visual promise. Avoid unexpected redirects and use HTTPS whenever possible. A visitor should be able to predict the destination from the surrounding text, alternative text, or visible call to action.
Write Useful Alternative Text
Alternative text should describe the image’s purpose rather than repeat nearby content. When an image is the only clickable element, the text should also communicate the action, such as “View the summer collection” or “Download the annual report.”
Test Every Device
Confirm that the image remains readable on mobile, keyboard focus is visible, the destination opens correctly, and hover effects do not hide essential information.
